Bodywork

Our therapists draw on their extensive training and experience to provide each client with a specialized treatment.  Modalities used may include Shiatsu, trigger points, acupressure, Swedish massage, deep-tissue work, friction, herbal liniments, hot or cold compresses, or Asian treatments such as cupping or gua-sha.

Energy Bodywork - (see also Shiatsu) Acupressure, Tuina.  Eastern acupoint-based techniques for stress related concerns including pain, migraines, anxiety, gastro-intestinal disorders, asthma, menstrual/menopausal dysfunction. No needles are used.  cupping, moxibustion, friction techniques (gua sha), stretching and facilitated gentle postural exercises (Sotai) are included in this therapy.

Swedish Massage  - a general whole body massage using oils on the skin. Techniques used include stroking, kneading, percussive, vibration, and friction massage strokes.  This is the most well known form of massage and is used for general relaxation.  It is a good ‘starter massage’ and is suitable for seniors and pregnant women.

Shiatsu - with this Japanese style you remain clothed and are treated on a mat on the floor. The thumbs, palms, fingers, elbows, or knees are used to apply pressure to points along the body’s meridian lines to balance the flow of energy and improve your health. Stretching is a major component of Shiatsu.

Deep Tissue - releases the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the grain of muscles, tendons and fascia. It is called deep tissue, because it also focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue.  It is helpful in realigning the body, improving posture, and bringing about freedom of movement.

Trigger Point Therapy - (also known as Myotherapy or Neuromuscular Therapy) applies concentrated finger pressure to "trigger points" (painful irritated areas in muscles) to break cycles of spasm and pain.

Corporate Chair Massage - on-site massage where special chairs are used to position the client.  Traditionally, 10 or 15 minute massages are offered to decrease stress, increase alertness, and boost job satisfaction.  The client remains fully clothed and no oils are used.
